Perfect Vanilla Panna Cotta: 1 Blissful Italian Dessert

Vanilla Panna Cotta

A silky and elegant Italian vanilla panna cotta, perfect for any occasion. This creamy dessert is simple to make and a delightful treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 vanilla bean, split and scraped, or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 packet (1/4 ounce) unflavored gelatin
  • Optional: Fresh berries or berry coulis for serving

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla bean seeds (or extract). Heat gently over medium heat until sugar dissolves and cream is warm, but not boiling. Remove from heat.
  2. If using a vanilla bean, let it steep in the cream for about 15-20 minutes, then remove the bean.
  3. In a small bowl, sprinkle gelatin over the milk. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes to bloom.
  4. Gently warm the bloomed gelatin mixture over low heat or in the microwave for a few seconds until it becomes liquid. Do not boil.
  5. Whisk the liquefied gelatin into the warm cream mixture until fully combined.
  6. Pour the mixture into individual ramekins or serving glasses.
  7. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, or until set.
  8. Serve chilled, optionally with fresh berries or berry coulis.

Notes

  • For a stronger vanilla flavor, use a real vanilla bean.
  • Ensure the gelatin is fully dissolved before mixing it with the cream.
  • Panna cotta can be made a day in advance.
