Scale
  • 2 cups mixed nuts (pecans, almonds, walnuts)
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, brown sugar, chili powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, and salt.
  3. Add the mixed nuts to the bowl. Pour the water over the nuts and stir well until all the nuts are evenly coated with the spicy, sweet mixture.
  4. Spread the coated nuts in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Do not crowd the pan.
  5. Roast for 15 to 20 minutes. Stir the nuts halfway through the roasting time to prevent burning.
  6. Remove the nuts from the oven when they are fragrant and lightly browned.
  7. Let the nuts cool completely on the baking sheet. They will crisp up as they cool.
  8. Store cooled nuts in an airtight container.

Notes

  • You can substitute honey for maple syrup if you prefer.
  • Adjust the cayenne pepper amount based on your preferred level of spice.
  • Use any nuts you have on hand for the mix.
