Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup lingonberry jam

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, chopped onion, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Roll the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
  3. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides. Remove meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Add flour to the skillet and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  5. Gradually whisk in beef broth until smooth. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
  6. Stir in heavy cream and lingonberry jam. Return the meatballs to the skillet and simmer gently for 10-15 minutes, or until cooked through.
  7. Serve hot with your favorite side dishes.

Notes

  • For a smoother sauce, you can strain it before returning the meatballs.
  • If lingonberry jam is unavailable, cranberry sauce can be used as a substitute.
  • These meatballs can be made ahead of time and reheated.
