Seven-Layer Dip

This Seven-Layer Dip is the ultimate party appetizer, featuring creamy refried beans, zesty guacamole, vibrant salsa, cool sour cream, and shredded cheese. It’s easy to assemble and always a crowd-pleaser for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (16 ounces) refried beans
  • 1 container (16 ounces) sour cream
  • 1 packet (1 ounce) taco seasoning
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or a blend)
  • 1 cup salsa
  • 1 avocado, mashed
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped black olives (optional)
  • 1/4 cup diced tomatoes (optional)
  • 1/4 cup diced onion (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, mix the refried beans with half of the taco seasoning. Spread this mixture evenly in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish or a shallow serving platter.
  2. In another bowl, combine the sour cream with the remaining taco seasoning. Spread this seasoned sour cream mixture over the refried bean layer.
  3. Evenly spread the salsa over the sour cream layer.
  4. If using, spread the mashed avocado mixed with lime juice over the salsa.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the avocado layer.
  6. Garnish with optional toppings like cilantro, black olives, diced tomatoes, or diced onion.
  7. Serve immediately with tortilla chips or crackers.

Notes

  • For a spicier dip, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the refried beans or sour cream.
  • You can prepare the layers ahead of time and assemble just before serving.
  • If making the guacamole layer, it’s best to mash the avocado and mix with lime juice right before assembling to prevent browning.
