1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
1/4 cup strong brewed coffee or espresso
Whipped cream, for topping

Instructions
In a medium saucepan, whisk together the cocoa powder, sugar, and salt.
Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.
Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it is hot but not boiling.
Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract, peppermint extract, chopped chocolate, and brewed coffee. Stir until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth.
Pour the hot chocolate into mugs.

Notes
