One-Pot American Goulash

This is a simple and comforting one-pot American Goulash recipe. It features ground beef, tender macaroni, a rich tomato sauce, and is topped with melted cheese for a complete and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess fat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce.
  5. Add the beef broth, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  6. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes.
  7. Stir in the elbow macaroni.
  8. Cover and simmer for another 15-20 minutes, or until the macaroni is tender and the sauce has thickened, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  9. Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and combined.
  10. Serve hot.

Notes

  • For a spicier goulash, add a pinch of red pepper flakes with the other seasonings.
  • You can substitute other pasta shapes like shells or rotini if desired.
  • If the goulash becomes too thick, add a little more beef broth or water to reach your desired consistency.
