Ingredients
Scale
4-5 fresh okra pods
2 cups filtered water
Instructions
Wash the okra pods thoroughly under running water.
Trim both ends of each okra pod.
Slice the okra pods into 1/2-inch to 1-inch pieces.
Place the sliced okra pieces into a glass jar or pitcher.
Pour 2 cups of filtered water over the okra pieces.
Cover the jar and refrigerate for at least 8 hours, or preferably overnight.
The next morning, remove the okra pieces from the water. You will notice the water has a slightly viscous, gel-like consistency.
Pour the okra water into a glass and drink immediately.
Notes
For best results, use fresh, firm okra pods.
The longer the okra soaks, the more mucilage (gel) will be released into the water.
You can prepare a larger batch and store it in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days.
Some people prefer to add a squeeze of lemon juice to enhance the taste.
