Ingredients
Scale
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For Decoration: White royal icing, black edible marker, orange edible marker, red edible marker
Instructions
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Divide the dough in half, flatten each half into a disc, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out one disc of dough to about 1/4-inch thickness.
Cut out snowman shapes using a cookie cutter. For a melting effect, you can slightly distort some shapes or use a knife to create a dripping look.
Place cookies on the prepared baking sheets, about 1 inch apart.
Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
Let cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Once cookies are completely cool, decorate them with white royal icing to resemble a melting snowman.
Use black edible markers for eyes and buttons, and orange for the carrot nose. Add red details for a scarf or rosy cheeks if desired.
Notes
Ensure your butter is truly softened, not melted, for the best cookie texture.
Don’t overmix the dough after adding the flour, as this can result in tough cookies.
Chilling the dough is crucial for easy handling and to prevent cookies from spreading too much while baking.
Royal icing dries hard, making it ideal for detailed decorating.
