Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • Extra chopped pecans and maple syrup for drizzling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
  3. Add the powdered sugar and salt. Beat until light and fluffy.
  4. Mix in the vanilla extract and maple syrup.
  5. Gradually add the flour, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Stir in the finely chopped pecans.
  7. Roll the dough into small balls or form into a log and slice into 1/2-inch rounds. Place them on the prepared baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  9. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before moving them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. If desired, drizzle with a little extra maple syrup and sprinkle with pecans once cooled.

Notes

  • For the best maple flavor, use real maple syrup, not pancake syrup.
  • Chilling the dough for 30 minutes before baking helps the cookies hold their shape better.
  • These cookies store well in an airtight container for up to one week.
  • You can press a whole pecan half on top of each cookie before baking for decoration.
