Ingredients
Scale
6 cups apple cider (not from concentrate)
4 cinnamon sticks
1/4 cup brown sugar (optional, adjust to taste)
1 orange, sliced
Instructions
Pour the apple cider into a large saucepan.
Add the cinnamon sticks and orange slices to the cider.
If you prefer a sweeter drink, stir in the brown sugar until dissolved.
Heat the cider over medium heat until it is steaming hot, but do not let it boil.
Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer gently for 15 to 20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Remove the cinnamon sticks and orange slices before serving, or leave one cinnamon stick in each mug for garnish.
Pour the hot cider into mugs and enjoy immediately.
Notes
For extra spice, add 3 whole cloves to the simmering cider.
Taste the cider before adding sugar; many ciders are already sweet enough.
You can substitute fresh orange slices with 1 teaspoon of orange zest.
