  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced peaches, 1/2 cup sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Toss gently to coat.
  3. Pour the peach mixture into an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, 1/4 cup sugar, baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the milk and melted butter.
  6. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of the batter evenly over the peach mixture in the baking dish.
  8. Sprinkle the remaining 1 tablespoon of sugar over the batter.
  9. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the peach filling is bubbly.
  10. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can add a tablespoon of cornstarch to the peach mixture to thicken the juices.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra treat.
  • If fresh peaches are not in season, you can use frozen or canned peaches (drained well).
