Ingredients
Scale
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1 carrot, grated
1 pound lean ground turkey
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon yellow mustard
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
4 whole wheat hamburger buns
Instructions
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add onion, bell pepper, and carrot. Cook until softened, about 5 to 7 minutes.
Add ground turkey to the skillet. Cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned. Drain any excess fat.
Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, and garlic powder.
Season with salt and pepper.
Bring the mixture to a simmer. Reduce heat to low and cook for 10 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.
Serve the turkey mixture generously on whole wheat hamburger buns.
Notes
For extra hidden veggies, you can finely grate zucchini and add it with the other vegetables.
Taste the sauce before serving; adjust ketchup or sugar for your preferred sweetness.
Serve with a side salad or sliced cucumbers for a complete meal.
