Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound thinly sliced roast beef
  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 12 slider buns
  • 8 ounces Swiss cheese, sliced
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, melt butter with olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onion, salt, and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until onions are softened and caramelized, about 20-25 minutes.
  3. While onions are caramelizing, prepare the au jus. In a saucepan, combine beef broth, soy sauce, and Dijon mustard. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Prepare the slider buns. Slice the slider buns in half horizontally. Place the bottom halves on a baking sheet.
  5. Layer the roast beef evenly over the bottom buns. Top the roast beef with the caramelized onions.
  6. Place slices of Swiss cheese over the onions.
  7. Place the top halves of the slider buns over the cheese.
  8. In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and dried parsley. Brush this mixture over the tops of the slider buns.
  9. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the buns are golden brown and heated through.
  10. Serve immediately with the warm au jus for dipping.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of sugar to the onions while caramelizing to help them brown faster.
  • If you don’t have slider buns, you can use regular dinner rolls or cut a larger roll into smaller portions.
  • Feel free to add a sprinkle of fresh parsley on top before serving for a pop of color.
