Gather all your ingredients. You will need a small bowl for mixing.
In the bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, chopped dill pickles, chopped capers, fresh lemon juice, Dijon mustard, dried dill, black pepper, and salt.
Stir all the ingredients together until the sauce is completely smooth and creamy.
Taste the sauce. If you want more tang, add a small squeeze more of lemon juice. If you prefer it saltier, add another small pinch of salt.
Cover the bowl and refrigerate the tartar sauce for at least 30 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to blend together nicely.
Serve your homemade tartar sauce with your favorite seafood dishes.
Notes
For a richer flavor, substitute half of the mayonnaise with plain Greek yogurt for a lighter, tangier sauce.
You can prepare this sauce ahead of time. It keeps well in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
If you like a little heat, add 1/2 teaspoon of hot sauce to make a spicy tartar sauce variation.
