Close-up of creamy white garlic sauce served in a small, white, fluted ramekin on a granite countertop.

Whip up this incredibly smooth and flavorful homemade garlic dip in just 10 minutes. This versatile, creamy garlic sauce is perfect for drizzling over chicken or steak, or using as a dipping sauce for fries and bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup mayonnaise (use your favorite quality brand)
  • 4 large cloves fresh garlic, minced very finely
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1-2 tablespoons cold water (optional, for thinning)

Instructions

  1. Gather all your ingredients. For the best flavor, ensure your garlic is minced very finely or pressed.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, minced fresh garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil.
  3. Add the salt and pepper to the mixture.
  4. Whisk all ingredients together vigorously until the sauce is completely smooth and creamy. This should take about one minute.
  5. Taste the sauce. If you prefer a slightly thinner consistency for drizzling, whisk in cold water, one teaspoon at a time, until you reach your desired texture.
  6. Cover the bowl and chill the creamy garlic sauce in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes before serving. This allows the garlic flavor to meld into the sauce.
  7. Serve this versatile garlic condiment with grilled chicken, roasted vegetables, or as a homemade garlic dip for fries.

Notes

  • For a stronger garlic punch, increase the garlic to 5 cloves.
  • You can substitute the mayonnaise with Greek yogurt for a lighter, tangier white garlic sauce.
  • Store any leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days.
