Make a superior pizza sauce in five minutes using only pantry staples. This no-cook recipe delivers fresh flavor instantly for your next pizza night.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (28 ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes (preferably San Marzano)
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar (optional, for acidity balance)

Instructions

  1. Drain the whole peeled tomatoes lightly, reserving the liquid.
  2. Place the tomatoes into a medium bowl.
  3. Use your hands or an immersion blender to crush the tomatoes until you reach your desired consistency. For a smoother sauce, use the blender briefly. For a chunkier sauce, crush by hand.
  4. Stir in the olive oil, oregano, basil, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and optional sugar.
  5. Mix all ingredients together until fully combined.
  6. Use immediately on your pizza dough.

Notes

  • For a New York style sauce, use high-quality canned crushed tomatoes instead of whole peeled tomatoes.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, let the crushed tomatoes sit in a fine-mesh sieve for 10 minutes to drain excess liquid before mixing in seasonings.
  • Taste the sauce before adding salt; the saltiness of canned tomatoes varies.
