Golden Crispy Mozzarella Sticks: 2 Secrets

Crispy Mozzarella Sticks

Learn how to make golden, crispy mozzarella sticks at home. These cheesy delights are perfect for snacks or appetizers. Chloe from Sunday Flavor shares her easy recipe for this beloved treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh mozzarella, cut into 1/2-inch thick sticks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Pat the mozzarella sticks dry with paper towels.
  2. Set up three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with panko breadcrumbs mixed with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and pepper.
  3. Coat each mozzarella stick first in flour, then dip in the egg, and finally roll in the panko mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated.
  4. Place the coated mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 1 hour. This helps them hold their shape during frying.
  5. Heat about 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot or Dutch oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Carefully add the frozen mozzarella sticks to the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding the pot.
  7. Fry for 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove the mozzarella sticks with a slotted spoon and place them on a wire rack to drain any excess oil.
  9. Serve immediately with your favorite marinara sauce.

Notes

  • For extra crispy sticks, you can double-coat them in the breadcrumb mixture.
  • Make sure the oil is at the correct temperature to prevent the cheese from melting out.
  • Serve with a side of marinara sauce for dipping.
