Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar, plus more for coating
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, plus more for coating
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the Maple Glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk or cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a standard donut pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and ½ teaspoon of cinnamon.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg, ½ cup milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Spoon or pipe the batter evenly into the prepared donut pan cavities, filling each about two-thirds full.
  6. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. While the donuts cool slightly in the pan (about 5 minutes), prepare the cinnamon sugar coating in a shallow dish: mix ¼ cup of granulated sugar with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.
  8. Remove the warm donuts from the pan and immediately toss them gently in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated. Set aside on a wire rack.
  9. Prepare the glaze: Whisk the powdered sugar, maple syrup, and 1 tablespoon of milk until smooth. Add the second tablespoon of milk if the glaze is too thick.
  10. Dip the tops of the cooled donuts into the maple glaze. Let the glaze set before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can use buttermilk instead of regular milk.
  • If you do not have a donut pan, you can bake the batter in a muffin tin for simple cake rounds. Adjust baking time accordingly.
  • Make sure your maple syrup is pure for the best glaze flavor.
