Chinese Five-Spice Glazed Salmon Fillets

Create stunning Chinese Five-Spice Glazed Salmon Fillets, perfect for adding a festive, global flavor to your next special dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 (6 ounce) salmon fillets, skin on or off
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro or sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, five-spice powder, minced garlic, and ground ginger to create the glaze.
  3. Pat the salmon fillets dry with a paper towel. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil in an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat, or brush the prepared baking sheet with oil. Place the salmon fillets in the skillet or on the baking sheet, presentation side down.
  5. Brush about half of the five-spice glaze evenly over the top of the salmon fillets.
  6. Bake for 10 to 14 minutes, depending on the thickness of your fillets, until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
  7. During the last 2 minutes of baking, brush the remaining glaze over the fillets.
  8. Remove from the oven. Garnish with fresh cilantro or sliced green onions before serving.

Notes

  • You can broil the salmon for the last minute for extra caramelization, watching closely to prevent burning.
  • This recipe pairs wonderfully with steamed rice and lightly sautéed bok choy.
  • Adjust the amount of five-spice powder if you prefer a milder or stronger flavor.
