Quick Stovetop Garlic Butter Rice

A perfectly molded serving of fluffy white butter rice topped with golden brown toasted garlic or seasoning.

Make flavorful, buttery rice quickly on the stovetop using simple ingredients like garlic and butter.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice, uncooked
  • 1 3/4 cups chicken broth or water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil and butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat until the butter melts.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Do not let the garlic brown.
  3. Add the uncooked rice to the saucepan and stir constantly for 1 to 2 minutes to toast the grains lightly.
  4. Pour in the chicken broth or water, add the salt and pepper, and bring the mixture to a boil.
  5. Once boiling, immediately reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan tightly with a lid, and simmer for 15 minutes without lifting the lid.
  6. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it stand, covered, for an additional 10 minutes.
  7. Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.

Notes

  • For richer flavor, substitute half of the broth with beef consommé.
  • If you prefer a baked version, combine all ingredients in a casserole dish and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 40 minutes.
  • Use basmati or jasmine rice for the best texture.
