Make a simple, fresh cranberry sauce with a perfect balance of sweet and tart flavors, ready in under 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar and water in a medium saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
  2. Add the fresh cranberries, orange juice, orange zest, and cinnamon to the sugar mixture.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low.
  4. Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until most of the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened slightly.
  5. Remove the pan from the heat. The sauce will thicken more as it cools.
  6. Pour the sauce into a serving bowl or airtight container.
  7. Chill completely before serving.

Notes

  • You can make this sauce up to one week ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator.
  • For a less tart sauce, increase the sugar by 1/4 cup.
  • If you prefer a smoother sauce, pulse it a few times with an immersion blender after cooling slightly.
