Ingredients
Scale
1 whole chicken (about 3-4 pounds)
1 (12 ounce) can of beer, any kind
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
Preheat your grill to medium-high heat, about 350-400°F (175-200°C).
Remove giblets from the chicken cavity and pat the chicken dry with paper towels.
In a small bowl, mix together olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
Rub the spice mixture all over the chicken.
Open the can of beer and pour out about half of it.
Carefully place the chicken onto the beer can, ensuring the can is centered in the cavity. The chicken will be standing upright on the can.
Place the chicken and beer can onto the preheated grill. Close the grill lid.
Grill for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F (74°C) in the thickest part of the thigh, avoiding the bone.
Carefully remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before carving and serving.
Notes
You can substitute the beer with chicken broth or apple cider for a different flavor.
Ensure the beer can is stable on the grill before closing the lid.
If you don’t have a grill, you can adapt this recipe for an oven.
