Bacon-Wrapped Whiskey-Glazed Dates

Make these Bacon-Wrapped Whiskey-Glazed Dates for an easy and elegant appetizer perfect for your next celebration, especially New Year’s Eve.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 Medjool dates, pitted
  • 12 thin slices of bacon
  • 1/4 cup whiskey
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Wrap one slice of bacon around each pitted date. Secure the bacon with a toothpick, if necessary.
  3. Arrange the wrapped dates on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the bacon is crisping up.
  5. While the dates bake, prepare the glaze. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the whiskey, brown sugar, butter, and salt.
  6. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Let it simmer for 3 to 5 minutes until it thickens slightly. Remove from heat.
  7. Remove the dates from the oven. Brush them generously with the whiskey glaze.
  8. Return the dates to the oven for another 3 to 5 minutes until the glaze is bubbly and caramelized. Watch closely to prevent burning.
  9. Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Use good quality bacon for the best flavor.
  • If you prefer a non-alcoholic glaze, substitute the whiskey with apple juice and a splash of vanilla extract.
  • You can substitute Medjool dates with other large, soft dates.
  • For easy cleanup, use foil instead of parchment paper on your baking sheet.
