Authentic Guacamole

Learn how to make authentic Mexican guacamole using fresh, ripe avocados, zesty lime juice, crisp cilantro, and sharp onions. This recipe is perfect for a vibrant and delicious dip.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1-2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • Optional: 1/2 jalapeño, finely minced

Instructions

  1. Cut the avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a medium bowl.
  2. Mash the avocado flesh with a fork until it’s mostly smooth with some chunky bits.
  3. Add the chopped red onion, cilantro, lime juice, and salt to the bowl.
  4. Gently stir everything together until well combined.
  5. If using, stir in the minced jalapeño for a little heat.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed, adding more salt or lime juice.
  7. Serve immediately with your favorite tortilla chips or as a topping.

Notes

  • Use avocados that yield slightly to gentle pressure for the best texture.
  • Adjust the amount of lime juice and salt to your preference.
  • For a smoother guacamole, mash the avocados more thoroughly.
  • To prevent browning, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole before storing.
