Ingredients
Scale
2 large apples
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 225°F (107°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Wash and core the apples. Slice them very thinly, about 1/16-inch thick. A mandoline slicer is helpful for this.
Arrange the apple slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
In a small bowl, mix together the cinnamon and nutmeg (if using). Sprinkle evenly over the apple slices.
Bake for 1 to 2 hours, flipping the slices halfway through, until they are dry and slightly crisp. The exact time will depend on the thickness of your slices and your oven.
Let the chips cool completely on the baking sheet. They will crisp up further as they cool.
Notes
For extra crispiness, you can leave the oven door slightly ajar during the last 30 minutes of baking.
Store cooled chips in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
