Make crispy, spicy Buffalo cauliflower wings quickly in your air fryer. This recipe includes a simple coating and a classic hot sauce mixture for a satisfying vegetarian appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large head cauliflower, cut into bite-sized florets
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup Frank’s RedHot Original Cayenne Pepper Sauce (or similar)
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • For serving: Ranch or blue cheese dressing, celery sticks

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cauliflower: Pat the cauliflower florets very dry with paper towels. Moisture prevents crispiness.
  2. Make the batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Slowly whisk in the cold water until a thin, pancake-like batter forms. Do not overmix.
  3. Coat the cauliflower: Dip each dry floret into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Place the coated florets in a single layer on a plate or baking sheet.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (195°C). Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  5. Air fry in batches: Place the coated florets in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring space between pieces for air circulation. Work in batches if necessary.
  6. Cook for 10 minutes. Open the basket, shake well, and continue cooking for another 5 to 8 minutes, or until the coating is golden brown and crispy.
  7. Make the sauce: While the cauliflower cooks, combine the melted butter, hot sauce, apple cider vinegar, and brown sugar in a small bowl. Whisk until smooth.
  8. Toss the wings: Once cooked, immediately transfer the hot, crispy cauliflower into a large bowl. Pour the Buffalo sauce over the wings and toss gently until every piece is coated.
  9. Serve immediately with your choice of dipping sauce and celery sticks.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can lightly spray the battered cauliflower with cooking oil before the first air fry cycle.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches for the best texture.
  • If you prefer a thicker coating, you can dredge the battered pieces in a small amount of dry flour after dipping them in the wet batter.
